June 19, 2009 Braves 7, Red Sox 6

The game was not as close as it may look, as the Braves were in control throughout back in their former hometown until a 4-run Sox rally in the 8th and another run in the 9th makes it a one run game, but with Rafael Soriano on the mound that is as close as it will get. Youk has a nice 3 for 5 day in the losing cause, a solo homerun for Jason Varitek and a nice pinch-hit double for Mark Kotsay.

In a bit of useless trivia, since interleague play began the Barves are the National League team that the Red Sox have played the most in the interleague play at the beginning of the 2009 season with 45 games between the two teams. Appropiate I guess, since the Barves did play in Boston for over 50 years. As you would expect the NL East teams are the most played by the Sox in interleague play with 34 games against the Phillies, 21 against the Marlins and 18 against the Mets and Nationals/Expos. The least? The Chicago Cubs, whom the Red Sox have only played once for a three game series back in 2005 at Wrigley Field.

In another interesting bit of useless information the current opponent of the Phillies, the Baltimore Orioles, are the franchise that the Sox have played the most regular season games against at the beginning of the 2009 season. Boston has played 2047 games against the Orioles/St. Louis Browns franchise since the AL began. That is one game more than the 2046 games against the second most played franchise, the New York Yankees. The Yankees would be one team in the same city throughout, so draw your own conclusions as to who the Sox have played the most games against.

topped the Boston Red Sox by the slimmest of margins, 7 to 6.

Kenshin Kawakami(6-6) delivered a fine performance for Atlanta. He
surrendered 5 hits and 3 walks in 7 innings. Boston made it exciting in the
9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

Rafael Soriano earned his 9th save. Daisuke Matsuzaka(3-3) was hit with the
loss. He allowed a few too many baserunners giving up 9 hits and 3 walks in
5 and 1/3 innings.

Atlanta now has a record of 32-34. With the loss Boston now has a record of
