June 17, 2009 Marlins 14, Red Sox 2

Nothing good to write home about today, as most of the announced attendance of over 36,000 was long gone by the 7th inning stretch as Florida fashions a 20-hit attack while scoring in six separate innings. Brad Penny's troubles continue as he loses his fifth straight start. Not just losing, but losing big with an ERA in those five losses of 9.97!! Even with scoring 14 runs, the Marlins still leave 13 men stranded on the basepaths or it could have been worse. Mike Lowell's 2-run homerun is the lone bright spot for Boston.

Oddity of the day - the two teams combine for 6 errors (4 for Florida), and not one run was unearned on either side.

WEB GEMS- Top 2nd: Mike Lowell robbed Hanley Ramirez of a base hit.

First baseman Ross Gload collected 2 extra-base hits and had 4 RBI at Fenway
Park as the Florida Marlins embarrassed the Boston Red Sox by the lopsided
score of 14 to 2.

Gload provided much of the offense. He delivered a one-base hit scoring two
baserunners in the 5th inning, tripled resulting in a run in the 6th inning
and doubled plating a run in the 8th inning. Florida kept the scorekeepers
busy in the 5th inning which saw them plate 4 runs on 5 hits. Florida
dominated offensively as they scored in 6 different innings.

Andrew Miller(2-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 7 innings and allowing
2 runs. Brad Penny(5-6) was tagged with the loss. He gave up 6 runs in 3 and
1/3 innings of work.
