June 17, 2009 Blue Jays 8, Phillies 2

For the second time in his last three starts, Jamie Moyer is knocked out of the game in the 2nd inning with his 46 year old body taking a pounding. A 2-run homerun for Vernon Wells in the first inning put him in an early hole, and a 2-run shot for former teammate Rod Barajas put the nail in the coffin sending Moyer to the showers. His Toronto counterpart Scott Richmond has no trouble with the Phillie high-powered offense, striking out 11 and alowing 3 hits with no earned runs in the complete game effort.

The shot for Barajas puts Moyer into sole possesion of 4th place in the career homeruns allowed list, one ahead of Don Sutton.

WEB GEMS- Top 4th: Ryan Howard robbed Vernon Wells of a base hit.

Aaron Hill had 2 base hits and scored 3 times and Scott Richmond pitched a 3
hitter at Citizen's Bank Park as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Philadelphia
Phillies 8 to 2.

Toronto drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning with
2 runs using 2 hits. Marco Scutaro led off and keyed the rally when he drew
a walk. Scutaro then stole second base. Hill then laced a one-base hit.
Hill took second on the throw. Vernon Wells got his turn next, but he was a
strikeout victim. One out later, Adam Lind stepped up to the plate and he
banged out a single. Jamie Moyer then uncorked a wild pitch. Toronto rapped
out 10 hits for the night.

Richmond(3-3) allowed 2 runs on the game. Moyer(6-5) was the losing pitcher.
'I thought it was my best performance in a long time,' said Richmond. 'I had
good command early in the game. I had my control and composure and everything
went well.'
