| John Mayberry Jr., just called up from AAA with Raul Ibanez going on the DL, makes his dad proud today. In his third major league start in the field, he gets his 2nd major league homerun with a 2-run shot in the 2nd inning, which gives the Phillies a 3-0 lead. The Jays come back though, scoring 3 in the 6th off of Joe Blanton to tie the game 3-all. Mayberry sends the fans home happy when with two outs in the bottom of the 9th he puts his second homer of the game right field seats just out of reach of Alex Rios for a solo shot and the walk-off homerun, and a thrilling Phillie win. Close games has been a major problem for the Phillies all season. Despite being 10 games over .500, their record in one-run games was a horrific 1-11 before today. Almost a bad in extra-inning games at 1-6. |
