| Two-run homeruns for David Ortiz and Dustin Pedroia help put the Sox out to a quick 5-2 lead after 2 1/2, but Minnesota scores 13 unanswered runs in a romp and the worst loss of the year so far for the Red Sox. Neither starter, Daisuke Matsuzaka or Kevin Slowey, is all that effective. Dice-K allows 7 runs through 3 innings in the loss, and Slowey allows 5 runs in 4 innings. Not going the required 5 denies Slowey of the win, and Jose Mijares picks up the win with 3 innings of one hit ball in relief. The Sox were trying to hold their own down 8-5, until the 7th inning when Joe Mauer smokes one over the wall for a grand slam off of Takashi Saito, part of a 5 run inning, and ices the cake for the Twins. |
