May 20, 2009 Cardinals 1, Cubs 0 (11)

This is one for the baseball purist. Both starters, Ryan Dempster for Chicago and Chris Carpenter for St. Louis, pitch 10 innings of shutout ball through 10 innings. Carpenter goes the 11th also still unscored upon, while Dempster is pinch-hit for in the top of the 11th and Aaron Heilman and Carlos Marmol let the Cards get the winning run home in the bottom of the 11th.

Gargantuan efforts for each starter, with Dempster heaving 154 pitches in the toughest no-decision he will ever get. 10 shutout innings, 8 hits allowed, 2 walks and 12 strikeouts with nothing to show for it in the win-loss column. Carpenter gets the credit for the win and the shutout with a 143 pitch effort and 11 shutout innings, 8 K and only 5 hits allowed with no walks. Impressive performances for each.
