| The Red Sox begin a 10 game road trip in the Twin Cities to face the AL Central leading, but one game below .500, Minnesota Twins but come up empty as three Twins hurlers hold the Sox scoreless to end the streak. Not for lack of trying as Twins starter Francisco Liriano barely goes the required 5 innings walking 8 and the Sox loaded the bases with no outs twice, but can't poke anybody across home plate. Doomed from the beginning as Jason Kubel and Mike Cuddyer rippped back-to-back homeruns in the first inning for 3 runs out of the gate off of Brad Penny. And who is the hottest team in baseball now that the Sox have had their winning streak ended? Believe it or not, the sad sack Pittsburgh Pirates who have won 8 straight games - and still sit 9 games below the .500 mark!! |

WEB GEMS- Top 5th: Francisco Liriano robbed Julio Lugo of a base hit.
Jason Kubel went yard and had 3 RBI and Luis Ayala had a strong outing at
Metrodome as the Minnesota Twins beat the Boston Red Sox 5 to 0.
Minnesota wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning scoring 3 runs
on 4 hits. Carlos Gomez led off and keyed the rally when he lined a one-base
hit. Gomez was safe on a stolen base. Two outs later Justin Morneau stepped
in and he doubled. Kubel was up next and he lifted one out of the park for a
two run home run. Michael Cuddyer came to the plate and cracked a solo
homerun. That was all the offense they were to need. Minnesota had 12 hits
overall, while Boston had 3.
Francisco Liriano(5-2) allowed no runs in 5 innings, and picked up the
victory. Brad Penny(5-2) took the loss. He surrendered 4 runs and 11 hits in
5 innings.
