| For the second consecutive day the Phillies lose in extra frames, the difference being that today it had no business going to extra innings in the first place. A. J. Burnett is dominant for the Yankees through 8 innings with Pedro Feliz getting the only two Phillie hits, a double and a single. Entering the top of the 9th, Yankees lead 5-0. Burnett begins to tire, walking Chase Utley with Raul Ibanez knocking one over the fence for the first two Philly runs of the game. Ryan Howard reaches on an error by A-Rod, and enter Mariano Rivera. Rivera can't get it done today as he walks Jayson Werth and Shane Victorino rips one over the wall for a 3-run blast which ties the score. Five runs score for the Phillies before getting an out to turn a 5-0 defecit entering the 9th to a 5-5 tie after 9. Rivera settles down and goes the remainder of the 9th and the top of the 10th unscored on, and Brad Lidge, with his 0.00 ERA over 14 innings for the season so far, takes over in the bottom of the 10th in the tie game for the Phillies. He can't deliver either with Kevin Cash and Derek Jeter ripping singles and Johnny Damon with a double bringing Cash home with the winning run. Rivera ends up with the win despite the blown save, and Lidge allows his first run of the year and gets the loss. A dramatic 9th inning 5 run comeback for the Phils is basically totally wasted today. |
