C. C. Sabitha was having his way while the Yankees were having their way with Cole Hamels in the early stages, as the Yanks score 5 off Hamels and Sabitha retires the first 13 Phillies in order. Then, Sabitha unexplicably falls apart after that first out in the 5th as Jayson Werth and John Mayberry Jr.(first major league homerun for Mayberry) take him deep for back-to-back shots. After an out, Eric Bruntlett and Carlos Ruiz hit doubles to bring another run across the plate and Jimmy Rollins goes yard bringing Ruiz home in front of him, ending Sabitha's day and a sudden 5-4 Phillie lead. The lead doesn't hold, as the Yanks get that 5th run off Hamels in the 5th with a walk and two singles to end his day to retie the game. Werth goes deep again for his second homerun in as many innings in the top of the 6th to give the Phils the lead back, but again it doesn't hold when Derek Jeter hits one over the wall in the 6th off Clay Condrey to tie it up again. The pitchers bear down at that point, and thanks to some sloppy defense the Yanks win in the bottom of the 11th. Jeter hits a double, Johnny Damon puts down a bunt which Ryan Howard grabs - and throws right past first base allowing Jeter to score on the error and a Yankees walk-off win. All three games of the series were decided by only one run with two walk-off extra inning losses for the Phils in the sweep to end a 10 game road trip.

separated the combatants at game's end.  The New York (AL) Yankees won by the
slimmest of margins, 7 to 6.
 
The score was knotted at 6 after nine innings. New York (AL) ended up winning
it in the 11th inning.  Derek Jeter doubled.  Johnny Damon next to the plate
and he reached on an error giving New York (AL) the victory as 51,137 happy
fans celebrated wildly.  New York (AL) banged out 9 hits on the afternoon.
 
The victory went to Alfredo Aceves(2-1) who went 1/3 of an inning, allowing no
runs. Chad Durbin(0-1) ended up with the loss in relief.  He allowed 1 hit
