May 24, 2009 Red Sox 6, Mets 5

When you are hot, these kind of games go your way. Former National Tim Redding holds the Sox to two unearned runs through 7 innings and a 6-2 Met lead. Jacoby Ellsbury pops one over the wall to narrow the lead to three, and when Redding walks David Ortiz in comes Francisco Rodruguez, he of the 62 save 2008 season. But this ain't 2008, and Rodriguez allows a single to Kevin Youkilis and Jason Bay rips one off the field for a 3-run smash and a sudden tie score. Not done yet, Mike Lowell takes Rodriguez deep for a Sox lead to cap a 5 run inning. Papelbon takes an easy 9th save for a single for Carlos Beltran, and it adds another notch to the Red Sox's winning streak, now into double digits at 10 games.

For Rodriguez, it will be his 6th blown save of the season so far and third loss to go along with an ERA over 9.00. What a difference a season makes.

One run was the difference at Fenway Park as the seemingly unstoppable Boston
Red Sox defeated the New York (NL) Mets 7 to 6.

Justin Masterson(2-3) got the win with a steady relief outing. He was reached
for 2 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings. New York (NL) threatened in the 9th but
their rally came up short.

Jonathan Papelbon got the save, his 10th. Francisco Rodriguez(0-3) took the
loss in relief. He pitched 1/3 of an inning allowing 3 hits and no
walks.

Boston continued their winning ways, seemingly unable to lose during this
stretch. 'We're running on all cylinders now', said Terry Francona. 'I
probably shouldn't change a thing and let the guys continue to put up the
wins.'
