| Shane Victorino continues to be mired in a 3 for 24 slump including 1 for his last 16, but he is not needed at all today with Chase Utley knocking in 3 runs with a 2-run homer and an RBI single and Ryan Howard's 12th homerun of the year. The St. Louis pinch-hitters come through big time with a pinch-hit solo homerun in the 7th for Brian Barden and a 2-run PH shot in the bottom of the 9th for Jason Larue off of Chad Durbin, but Brad Lidge comes in and records his 6th save even with putting the tying run on base. 5th win in the last 6 games for the Phillies, but they still sit in 2nd place 4 1/2 back of the 18-8 Marlins in the division. With the talk that you had with the odd NL West standings, I have kind of the same situation with the Dodgers having the most wins of any team in the division, but sit in fourth place!! Chase Utley touched them all and had 3 RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies beat
the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 7 to 5.
Philadelphia claimed the early lead in the first inning when they scored 2
runs on 2 hits. The highlight belonged to Utley who helped quiet the crowd
when he lifted one out of the park for a two run home run. St. Louis
threatened in the 9th but their rally came up short.
The victory went to Joe Blanton(4-0) who went 6 and 2/3 innings, allowing 3
runs. Brad Lidge recorded his 6th save. Kyle Lohse(1-3) was the losing
pitcher. He gave up 6 runs in 5 innings of work.
