| Not much run support again from teammates for Josh Beckett, but today it is enough. The Yankees score first in the top of the 6th with a Derek Jeter single and Johnny Damon RBI double, and the Sox get the run right back in the bottom of the inning when Dustin Pedroia singles with an error for Yanks pitcher A. J. Burnett putting Petey at second. He goes to third on a groundout, and scores on Kevin Youkilis's single to tie the score. The Sox try like hell to get a run home in the 7th, but get 2 runers thrown out at home. Jason Veritek singles, is pinch-run with Johnathan Van Everey for someone a bit faster on the bases, and Nick Green singles putting Van Every at third. With nobody out, I try a squeeze with Jacoby Ellsbury but it doesn't work as Van Every is caught at the plate with Green going to third. With the Yanks having the infield in, Pedroia's grounder to second base is thrown home and nails Green trying to sneak across to nail another runer at home. The Sox finally come through in the 8th off Steven Jackson, as he gets the loss for the second straight day when Jason Bay walks and comes all the way around to score on Mike Lowell's double. Backett gets the win with only 88 pitches through 8 innings. I thought about leaving him in, but with only the one run lead decided against it and Paps gets the save despite walking two in the 9th for his 5th save and remains unscored upon so far this year in 9 1/3 innings of work. |
