| A good way to get a team out of a bit of a slump - play the Washington Nationals. Nats starter Shairon Martis is nowhere near as sharp as when he started against the Phillies a couple of weeks ago and is out of the game in the 2nd inning after 6 Phillies cross the plate. The Nats bullpen holds up surprising well holding the Phils to 3 hits and a homer the remainder of the game and they tried to mount a comeback, but couldn't. Ryan Howard gets the big bat of the day with a 2-run double and a 3-run homerun that could have been a grand slam if not for a Rollins/Victorino home/second double steal attempt where Rollins was nabbed at the plate for the 2-4-2 putout. Speaking of numbers, note the odd line score for Chase Utley of 2 3 1 1. Utley hit a homer for his one hit, RBI and one of the runs along with walking twice and scoring both times on hits by Howard. That top of the order punch of Rollins, Victorino, Utley and Howard is some sweet. |

First baseman Ryan Howard went deep and had 5 RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies
defeated the Washington Nationals by a score of 7 to 4 at Citizen's Bank
Park.
Howard provided much of the offense. He doubled which was good for two runs
in the 1st inning, lost the ball over the fence for three runs in the 2nd
inning and lashed a single in the 5th inning. Philadelphia had 10 hits for
the night.
Joe Blanton(3-0) allowed 4 runs in 6 innings, and picked up the victory. Brad
Lidge was credited with his 4th save. Shairon Martis(0-4) was given the
