April 22, 2009 Red Sox 9, Twins 6

The little guy comes through again in game two of the doubleheader as Jeff Bailey, getting the start at first base in the nightcap, singlehandedly takes Brad Penny off the hook for the loss with a "grand slamma jamma" in the 6th inning and a 4 for 4 day at the plate. Those four hits were: a double in the 2nd, a leadoff triple in the 5th, the grand salami homer in the 6th and he completes it with a single in the 8th to hit for the cycle. Bailey becomes the first Red Soxer to hit for the cycle since John Valentin in 1996. Penny allows 6 runs but still gets the win and he can thank Jef Bailey for it.

The most recent cycles for Red Sox hitters besides Bailey and Valentin are Scott Cooper in 1994, Mike Greenwell in 1988, Rich Gedman in 1985, Dwight Evans in 1984 and Fred Lynn in 1980.

in the 5th inning, launched a rocket-shot out of the park for a Grand Slam
homerun in the 6th inning and delivered a one-base hit in the 8th inning.
Boston out-hit Minnesota for the game, 12 hits to 9.

Brad Penny(2-0) went 6 innings allowing 6 runs for the win. Jonathan Papelbon
earned the save, his 3rd. Jose Mijares(0-1) ended up with the loss in
relief. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings giving up 3 hits and 1 walk.

'Bailey led the way - we just jumped on his back and let him take us,' Penny
said. 'I'm glad I don't have to face him. I'm glad he's on my team.'
