| I thought this one deserved a special mention. The only team on a par with the horrid 9-24 Washington Nationals are the 10-24 Pittsburgh Pirates, and this game shows why. An 8-1 Pirate lead through 5 innings is wasted away when the Cardinals come back with 3 runs in the 6th, three more in the 7th and a run in the top of the 9th to tie the game up 8-8. St. Louis gets two runs in the top of the 10th, but somehow Pittsburgh comes back with two of their own in the bottom of the 10th to retie the game back up 10-all. A Cardinal run in the top of the 11 goes unanswered by Pittsburgh, and the Cards get the win even with having to use the majority of their pitching staff with 9 pitchers taking the hill for St. Louis. |

Albert Pujols rocketed 3 homeruns and had 6 RBI as the St. Louis Cardinals
topped the Pittsburgh Pirates in 11 innings by a score of 11 to 10 at PNC
Park.
The score was tied at 8 after nine. St. Louis came out on top in the 11th
inning. Shane Robinson doubled. Donnie Veal then had one get away for a
wild pitch. Pujols then slapped a single. Veal then let one slip out of his
hand for a wild pitch. After an out was recorded, Yadier Molina came to the
plate and drew a walk. After another out, Tyler Greene came up and he drew a
walk to load the bases. Joe Thurston was next to the plate, but was promptly
struck out. Both teams finished the game with 16 hits.
Jason Motte(1-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 2 innings.
Veal(0-3) was hit with the loss in relief. St. Louis now has a record of
21-14. Not able to get much going in recent weeks, Pittsburgh is 2-8 of late
and now has an overall record of 10-24, worst in the division.
