| Maybe Justin Masterson should have started this game instead of Tim Wakefield. The Mariners get to Wake early, scoring 5 runs off him in the first inning and his day is done after two more hits (one erased on a DP) and a walk in the 2nd. Masterson takes over, and he is a-smokin' with 4 1/3 innings of one-hit relief with 6 K's. Masterson strikes out the first three hitters he faces on 9 pitches (Ryan Langerhans, Chris Woodward and Rob Johnson), but due to the fact that it was the final out of the 2nd and first two outs of the 3rd it won't go down in the record books as striking out the side on 9 pitches. Impressive nontheless. Kevin Youkilis gets 3 hits in the losing cause for the Sox. Other American League notes: the Minnesota Twins win again for their 15th straight victory to tie the team record set back in 1991. They hold a huge 10 game lead in the AL Central, damn impressive feat at about the midway point of the season to have a double digit lead. |

Ryan Langerhans jacked one out of the ballyard and had 4 RBI as the Seattle
Mariners defeated the Boston Red Sox by the score of 7 to 4 at Fenway
Park.
Langerhans was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine
day at their team's expense. He doubled plating two runs in the 1st inning
and smashed a two-run homer in the 7th inning. David Aardsma was perfect in
the ninth giving him his 22nd save on the season.
The win went to Felix Hernandez(7-6) who allowed 4 runs in 6 and 2/3 innings.
Tim Wakefield(5-5) was the loser. He pitched 1 and 2/3 innings giving up 6
hits and 3 walks.
Seattle now has a record of 37-42. With the loss, the Boston ballclub's
record is 45-34.
