| Almost identical score to yesterday's game, Mike Lowell's 3-run shot off of Antonio Bastardo knocks the Bastard to the showers in his first major league loss as his ERA goes up 266 points! Jason Varitek and Kevin Youkilis also homer for the Red Sox, as they win their 7th of last 8 games. A Jimmy Rollins 2-run homerun accounts for all of the Phils scoring. In something I never thought I would do, I bring David Ortiz into the game defensively at first base (yes, on defense) as part of a double switch for the Sox! Bastardo's scoreless streak to begin his career is ended at 15 innings with Youk's homer in the first inning. Technically it would be 15 2/3 innings, but per rules it revertes back to the last completed inning in regards to scoreless inning streaks unless the pitcher is taken out of the game in the middle of an inning without a run scoring. I found that out while looking up who has the record for scoreless innings to begin a career, which is Brad Ziegler of the A's at 39 scoreless innings to begin his career, just set in 2008. That shattered the old record of 25 set way back in 1907. Not a bad run for the Bastard at 15 innings, but nowhere close to the record. |
